Michelin in Bangkok: Stars, Street Food, and What to Book

Bangkok has its own Michelin Guide, spanning fine dining down to street stalls.

Stars move every year. The below reflects the 2026 guide — check the current one before booking.

Three stars

Sorn Southern Thai tasting menu, and the highest-rated Thai restaurant in the country. Booking is genuinely difficult — reservations open months ahead and go quickly.

Sühring German tasting menu run by twin brothers.

One star

Le Du Modern Thai, seasonal tasting menu. Easier to book than the three-star rooms.

Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) A street stall with a Michelin star. You've seen the photograph — an elderly cook in ski goggles working charcoal woks.

  • Old city, not far from Khao San
  • Signature dish: crab omelette
  • Prices are not street-food prices any more. They rose sharply after the star
  • Queues are long — hours is normal
  • Booking policy and opening days change often. Verify before you go

Famous without a star

Thipsamai (ทิพย์สมัย) A pad thai institution. The signature is prawn-oil pad thai wrapped in a thin egg crêpe. Same old-city district as Jay Fai. Long queue, fast turnover.

Polo Fried Chicken (Soi Polo) Garlic fried chicken with sticky rice and som tam. Near Lumphini Park.

Booking

Fine dining opens months out. Set an alarm for the release time on the restaurant's site or booking platform.

Street-food entries generally don't take bookings. Turn up early and queue.

Dress codes exist at some rooms — shorts and sandals may be refused. Check when booking.

Honest advice

A star is not the same as your taste. Ask whether several hours over a tasting menu is what you came for.

The Bib Gourmand list is more useful. It collects places serving excellent food at sensible prices, and it's heavy on local restaurants.

Check the Michelin Guide site or app for the current list. Most blog write-ups are years out of date.

In short

  • Three stars: Sorn and Sühring
  • Jay Fai is the street stall with a star
  • Thipsamai and Polo Fried Chicken are institutions without one
  • Stars change annually — verify before booking
  • Bib Gourmand is the more practical list

Ratings and opening details as of 2026 and subject to change.

Check what is actually in twenty common Thai dishes before booking if anyone in your party has a restriction. For the cheaper end of the same food, the night market guide lists what is still open, and most of these places are reached by BTS or MRT.
