Vertigo and Moon Bar Bangkok Are Closed Right Now, and Nobody Updated the Guides

Search for a rooftop bar in Bangkok and Vertigo & Moon Bar comes up first, every time. Travel sites list it. Booking platforms still sell tables there.

It is closed.

The short version

  • Banyan Tree Bangkok's own website says Vertigo & Moon Bar closed temporarily from 16 June for a renovation.
  • No reopening date has been announced.
  • Most travel content still lists it as open. Some booking sites still sell it.
  • Go to Mahanakhon SkyWalk instead. It is open, it is on a BTS station, and it has a glass floor at 314 metres.
  • Call +66 2 679 1200 before you plan anything around Banyan Tree.

What actually happened

Vertigo & Moon Bar sat on the 61st floor of Banyan Tree Bangkok on South Sathorn Road. For years it was the rooftop that ended up in everyone's Bangkok photo album.

The hotel posted a notice on its own dining pages: the venue closes temporarily from 16 June for what it calls a transformation. The wording promises a refreshed experience and a new chapter. It does not promise a date.

That is the entire public record. No reopening date, no interim venue.

This matters because third-party listings lag. If a booking site is still selling a table at Vertigo, that listing is stale. Confirm directly with the hotel before you pay for anything.

Go here instead

Mahanakhon SkyWalk is the cleanest substitute, and in some ways it is the better experience.

How to do Mahanakhon properly

Go up about 40 minutes before sunset. You get the daylight view, the sunset and the night skyline on one ticket. Bangkok's sun drops around six in the evening, give or take by season.

That is also the busiest slot, so buy the ticket ahead rather than queueing at the base.

Floor 74 is the indoor deck and it has the glass floor. Floor 78 is the open-air roof, and that is where the photographs happen.

If it rains, floor 78 can close. The indoor deck at 74 stays open, glass floor included. During the May to October wet season, the half hour right after a downpour is often the clearest air of the day.

The dress code thing

Most Bangkok rooftops run a smart casual policy. Vertigo did too.

Shorts, flip flops and sleeveless tops get turned away, and men get checked harder than women. Long trousers, a collared shirt and closed shoes will get you into any of them.

Drinks cost what the view costs. A cocktail runs to the price of a decent meal. That is the deal you are making.

Legal drinking age in Thailand is 20 and you can be asked for ID.

Closure confirmed on Banyan Tree Bangkok's official website, September 2026. Hours and floor details from the operators' published information. Venues change their hours often, so confirm before you travel.
